The stories mostly aimed at painting a life experience. Some developed a simple plot. For Thoreau, smell is a very important part of any scene.
Charcters in many stories are thin, bespectacled and physically weak.
Some stories feel strongly autobiographical. Others are bizarre. Well worth picking up for a short daily dose - like a magazine.
